The variety of clients getting treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following an awful accident in the Thoraya location on the Dambulla-Kurunegala primary roadway has increased.The Director of Kurunegala General Hospital mentioned that 5 clients who were hurt in the mishap and remain in important condition are currently being treated in the ICU of the hospital.The accident happened in the early hours of Monday (10 ), when 2 personal buses clashed, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
A total of 34 injured guests were admitted to the Kurunegala General Hospital, with four reported to be in crucial condition.The accident took place around 6 km from Kurunegala town, in the Thoraya location.
A personal bus operating under route number 48, traveling from Kaduruwela to Kurunegala, had stopped at the place to get passengers.
While the bus was fixed, another private bus, traveling at high speed from Maduru Oya to Colombo, crashed into it from behind.Upon effect, the bus that had been picking up guests diverted into a close-by garden and struck a tree.
Local homeowners instantly took steps to transfer the hurt to the Kurunegala Hospital for treatment.Meanwhile, the bus chauffeur responsible for the accident was jailed and produced before the Kurunegala Magistrates Court yesterday.
The chauffeur has been ordered to be remanded till the February 20 as the investigation continues.
